Safety First, AIA Credits Second! Glass Expo Northeast™ ’22 offers AIA-accredited Seminars

February 2nd, 2022 | Category: Event News

New standards and building code requirements have been implemented into the glass industry due to falling glass from railings and exterior balconies in high-rise condominiums. Railing specifications are now calling for laminated glass to provide safety from falling glass. This April, Glass Expo Northeast™ ’22 (GENE) will host “Understanding of Glass Railing Codes, Specs, and Materials,” an AIA-accredited seminar regarding newly implemented industry mandates.

Presenter Alberto Alarcon, Kuraray marketing specialist for Trosifol® interlayers, says, “This course provides the background for the changes in building codes for glass guards and demonstrates how critical it is to specify the appropriate construction for laminated glass guards.” Alarcon has extensive experience on the topic and has been involved in the laminated glass industry for over 15 years, with the last five focused on laminated glass.

Alarcon will specify correct glass usage, quality of glass lamination, and the compatibility of sealants and grouts in these systems. “We will conclude the presentation with a hands-on glass breakage demonstration that clearly shows the difference between different glass constructions,” says Alarcon. This session is one of three AIA-accredited courses at GENE ’22, held April 6-7 at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, N.Y. Don’t miss this seminar and the other learning opportunities.

Glass Expo Northeast™ ’22 offers two full days of comprehensive educational sessions, interaction with decision-makers and networking opportunities for the architectural glass and metal industries.

GENE ’22 is co-sponsored by the Long Island Glass Association (LIGA), USGlass magazine, USGNN™ and Architects’ Guide to Glass & Metal.
