Here we are, saying good-bye to 2017 and hello to 2018. One of the things I like to do around this time is take a look back on some of my favorite memories of the past year. And I can’t think of a better way to do than to scroll through the photos on my phone. Here’s a look back at some of my travels from the past year and moments I shared with co-workers and colleagues. Enjoy and have a happy and prosperous 2018.

February 2017, Las Vegas, BEC Conference 

You just never know what you’ll find in Las Vegas … like a surprise fashion show from Kuraray. All of these outfits are constructed using the company’s interlayer materials.

March 2017, Savannah, Ga., on route to Hilton Head for the GANA Annual Conference

A stroll through beautiful Savannah brought us here to Mercer House, made famous by the book (and later movie, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.”

March 2017, Hilton Head, S.C., GANA Annual Conference

No one expected it to be so cold! I believe it was about 32 degrees the morning we all got up bright and early for a 5K fun run. If you’ve read my blogs, you know I’m a runner and where I live 32 degrees is nothing; the mid- to high-teens is my cut-off.

April 2017, AIA National Convention, Orlando

A night out with some of my USGlass co-workers and Nancy Peterson from Azon International who joined us for dinner. One of the nice things about travel, despite the long hours, is relaxing with friends at the end of the day.

May 2017, Pittsburgh

This one wasn’t a work trip, but I can’t resist a nice skyline. I took this on Mount Washington and you can see PPG Place left of center.

June 2017, Tampere, Finland, GPD 

It may be a long journey to get to Tampere, Finland, but it’s definitely worth it—both in terms of scenery and the Glass Performance Days conference. Plus in the summer you get nearly 24 hours of straight daylight. Here, the top picture was taken around 6:00 a.m. and the bottom around midnight.

October, 2017, New York City

I had the chance to attend one of AGC Interpane’s educational programs for architects this past fall. It was held on the 86th floor of 1 World Trade Center, which provided this impressive view.

November, 2017, Cleveland

One more non-work related image … I loved seeing buildings we’ve written about and featured in USGlass magazine and got a close look at the Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal Building, which features a double skin façade. And just for fun, I couldn’t resist this beautiful glass dome ceiling, which I spotted in an area grocery store chain called Heinen’s. This particular location in the downturn area was originally an old bank building.
