August 14th, 2017 | Category: Industry News

Prices of materials used in the glass and glazing industry were mostly unchanged in July, according to Producer Price Index (PPI) data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

The monthly PPI for flat glass in the commodity category was down a slight 0.1 percent after staying flat in June. Those prices were up just 0.3 percent from a year ago and continue to level out on year-over-year basis.

According to the BLS, the commodity classification “organizes products and services by similarity or material composition, regardless of the industry classification of the producing establishment.”

The index for flat glass manufacturing in the industry classification was unchanged from June, and those prices have increased 0.8 percent from July 2016.

The industry classification measures “changes in prices received for the industry’s output sold outside the industry (that is, its net output).”

Prices for fabricated structural metal products were also flat in June. That index, in the commodity grouping, represents a 2-percent price increase year-over-year.

Ornamental and architectural metal product manufacturing, in the industry category, was up 0.3 percent for the month and 2.4 percent for the year.

Construction input prices increased 0.3 percent in July and are up 3 percent year-over-year. Nonresidential construction input prices ticked up 0.3 percent for the month and 2.7 percent for the year.
