Nope. No way. Not me. Forget it. This one is out of the question. Sure, I stepped out onto The Ledge at the Willis Tower. And ok, I tried out The Tilt at the Hancock Center. But this one is a no-go—at least for me.

Thrill seekers in LA this summer won’t want to miss the Skyslide attraction, an outdoor glass slide positioned close to 1,000 feet above downtown Los Angeles.

Let’s start with the location. Opening this year, the new OUE Skyspace LA is designed to be California’s tallest open-air observation deck and will offer panoramic, 360-degree views of Los Angeles. Earlier this month OUE (which is a diversified real estate owner, developer and operator) announced the arrival of OUE Skyspace LA’s all-glass slide: the Skyslide. The glass structure, in fact, was airlifted via helicopter onto the 69^th floor observation deck at the iconic US Bank Tower in downtown Los Angeles. You can see a picture here.

Skyslide is made entirely of clear glass and extends 45 feet long, from the 70th floor to the 69th floor of the U.S. Bank Tower.

The OUE Skyspace LA observation deck is slated to open June 25. The Skyslide is made entirely of clear glass, 1 ¼ inches thick, and is affixed to the exterior of the US Bank Tower, extending 45 feet long, from floor 70 to floor 69—that’s roughly 1,000 feet above street level. Designed by M. Ludvik & Co., the slide will also be able to withstand earthquakes and high winds … wouldn’t that be an experience: sliding down glass while at the same time a tremor shakes through the city. Gensler designed the OUE Skyspace observation deck, which runs across two levels, including an outdoor terrace on level 69, an elevator transfer floor and lobby area.

OUE’s Lucy Rumantir, OUE’s president and CEO, The Americas, said of the Skyslide that it “boasts a safe, thrilling experience unlike any other in the world. Guests of all ages will have the opportunity to transform their view of Los Angeles as they glide down, gazing at unparalleled views of the city.”

So here’s the thing: if you’re a thrill seeker, go for it. I am sure it will be a fun, exhilarating experience. And if you do happen to give it a go once it’s open, please be sure and email me any photos or videos as I would love to see them. But for me, I think I’m going to have to skip this one.
