Located in Arlington, Va., 800 North Glebe Road, which features more than 78,000 square feet of glass, was named the 2012 Speculative Office Building of the Year by the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, Northern Virginia in the four stories and above category. The award was presented to developer and owner The JBG Companies of Chevy Chase, Md. Designed by architect Cooper Carry of Alexandria, Va., Owatonna, Minn.-based Viracon supplied the glazing for the project. Other team members included Clark Construction Group LLC of Bethesda, Md., and Minneapolis-based Harmon Inc.

The building façade features a glass curtainwall with stainless steel accents. The 10-story, mixed-use office building has 316,000 square feet of Class A space and features a 10-story curtainwall façade. For the façade and other parts of the building, VRE15-59 and VRE1-46 were used in vision and spandrel sections, allowing for views down North Glebe Road and Wilson Boulevard.

The project earned LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for utilizing a variety of sustainable materials and meeting high-performance criteria, such as maximized daylighting and views.

“From the beginning, we knew that 800 North Glebe would be special,” says Kevin Anez, director of marketing for Viracon. “It is an honor to see so much of our glass on such an innovative, responsibly-designed building.”
