Winners Named in 2011 LEAF Awards
October 4th, 2011 | Category: Industry NewsThe Leading European Architectural Forum (LEAF) Awards, sponsored by Emirates Glass, were presented September 16 at the Landmark hotel in London and glass was a prominent feature in a number of the winners. In their ninth year, the awards were created to honor architects designing the buildings and solutions that are setting the benchmark for the international architectural community.
The Boat in Belfast, Northern Ireland, designed by TODD Architects, received the prize, for Mixed-Use Building of the Year. Judges said the Boat’s “highly glazed facades exert solar control via a bespoke external aluminium louvre system with hardwood shading, and [its] roof is a lightweight construction” and “As one of its few contemporary landmark buildings, it contributes successfully to its environment.”
Some other award winners were:
Residential Building of the Year (Single Occupancy): Studio mk27’s punta house, Punta Del Este, Uruguay;
Residential Building of the Year (Multiple Occupancy) and Overall Winner: OBR Open Building Research S.r.l. for the Milanofiori Residential Complex Milan, Italy;
Commercial Building of the Year: ESTUDI MASSIP-BOSCH ARQUITECTES, Diagonal ZeroZero Telefonica Tower, Barcelona, Spain;
International Interior Design Award:RHWL Architects, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London;
International Off-Site Construction Project of the Year: Populous, London 2012 Olympic Stadium; and
Best Structural Design of the Year: schmidt hammer lassen architects, The Crystal København, Denmark.
